The fungi Candida albicans can cause infections involving a variety of tissues in the human body such as the skin, nails, and mucus membranes (mouth, eyes, rectum, vagina) for example. And, while in relatively healthy individuals these condition may be chronic and bothersome, in immune suppressed patients (e.g. AIDS, Cancer), the fungi can be life-threatening.
