Myocarditis is an inflammatory condition affecting the heart muscle. The precise cause is subject to debate but likely culprits may include adverse effects of pharmacological medications, viral infections, an autoimmune response (where the immune systems turns on it self), or environmental toxins for example. Myocarditis is a major cause of heart failure and sudden death especially in young people. Most cases are not infectious. Patients may experience symptoms similar to a heart attack such as worthiness of breath, chest pains, clammy and pale skin, nausea and vomiting for example.
