Cannabis is emerging from the shadows of prohibition. Every week, there are advancements in many fields related to cannabis. Cannabis Reports will be re-capping the weekly events of the cannabis community and industry, so that you can stay up-to-date on the latest developments.

Walgreens Publishes Positive Cannabis Advice

Walgreens enlisted one of their community pharmacist residents, Dahlia Sultan PharmD, to publish a guide called: “What is Medical Marijuana? Clarifying Clinical Cannabis.” Walgreens ranks as the company with the 35th largest revenue in the United States, and the 114th overall revenue on a global scale.

Sultan’s article is well-rounded and explores the science of cannabis without fixating on the past several decades of negative clinical studies conducted by the American government. There are hundreds of clinical tests on medical cannabis from countries like Israel, Spain, Italy, Germany, and Japan.

The general topics of discussion are cannabinoids interacting with endocannabinoid system, the modern medical cannabis debate, and the mounting clinical evidence supporting effective therapeutical benefits. At the end of the article, Sultan encourages patients to consult a licensed physician.

Hawaii Delays Business Licenses

Hawaii temporarily postponed the distribution of the eight medical cannabis business licenses on April 15th. It was suggested that the licenses would be available by April 29th (today, two weeks after the postponement), but technical difficulties with fingerprinting and background checks may even extend the absence of business licenses into May.

Maine to Vote on Legalization in 2016

On Wednesday, the Chief of the Maine Supreme Court, Justice Leigh Saufley, ruled that the cannabis legalization campaign had successfully submitted 62,848 valid signatures, meeting the minimum requirement to send the legalization proposal to state legislators, and ultimately to the ballot this November.

Previously, thousands of the signatures were in dispute due to notary discrepancies. Lawmakers are likely to vote today (April 29th) on whether to send the citizen initiative on to voters.

Oklahoma/Nebraska Sue Colorado, Again

If at first you don’t succeed? Continue to impede! Earlier this year, Oklahoma and Nebraska were dealt an incredibly embarrassing blow when the Supreme Court of the United States declined to even hear their suit against Colorado.

Now, the misguided Attorney Generals from Nebraska and Oklahoma are teaming up again, this time piggy-backing on a Colorado appeals case, citing “unique sovereign interests.” The lawyers representing Pueblo County (the defendant in this appeals case) have publicly responded that Nebraska and Oklahoma are just trying to sidestep the regular procedures after being so firmly rejected by the Nation’s highest court.
